Viewsonic VX2025VM

Now it’s been a while since I’ve written a post here on lightenment. To be honest, I ran out of things to write about. I haven’t been purchasing too many gadgets lately. I apologize to the readers and hope to put posts up more frequently in the future. During the time of my last post I did pick up the Viewsonic VX2025WM monitor. I had been previously using my 12″ Powerbook G4 and a 15″ Samsung LCD, so the 20″ widescreen monitor was a pretty big jump for me. It was long overdue.
I’m actually using the monitor right now to write this article. At first I looked into the 30″ and 23″/24″ models from Apple and Dell. I figured those would be great but at this point I wasn’t quite willing to make the jump to the higher price range. On top of that I don’t have a card that can drive the 30″ monitors and it would have left me with an additional cost.
I decided that I would purchase the 20″ Viewsonic VX2025VM because I had been pretty happy with my previous Viewsonics and I had found a great deal online at J&R for about $300 after rebate.
I’d have to say that the monitor is quite usable. Jumping from 1024×768 to 1680×1050 is a big deal. It’s actually a usable resolution now for the sort of work I do. The monitor seems pretty bright and the coloring seems pretty good. I think the colors seem a little lighter than my Samsung, but maybe I need to calibrate it or change the modes.
The biggest part about this monitor is the response time. I played a few videos and it was very clear. I’m not an expert in video, but it looked much better than my old Samsung.
The only thing that really bothers me about the monitor is the adjustability. It only tilts forward and backward. I don’t move my monitor around too much so adjustability isn’t too much of an issue just something to get used to.
I’m very happy with the purchase. For the moment it is getting the job done. Probably sometime this summer I’ll add a second one to my workstation. I think the second monitor will be plenty of real estate for the time to come. As always if you have any comments feel free to leave them.

Kevin, I can’t say I play a lot of games, but I do watch a lot of movies. While it’s a lot better than most of the LCDs as far as reducing ghosting, there is still definately a difference compared to a CRT monitor. My best advice is to probably go check it out at a store if you can and possibly play a video or a game on it and see for yourself.
