Phillips Digital Photo Frame

So I picked up a Phillips 7FF1M4 Digital Photo Frame on an impulse buy at my local Office Depot. I saw it on the shelf and I’ve always thought digital picture frames were a cool idea. Sure they are still pretty expensive. I picked this unit up for $200. The look of the frame is nice and it had enough memory to store pictures for a good slide show rotation.
The Phillips Digital Photo Frame comes with the frame, an AC adaptor, display stand, USB cable, and 4 interchangeable bezels. I was able to connect the unit to my computer via USB and iPhoto recognized the photo frame immediately. I transfered a few pictures onto the built-in memory and it converted it to the appropriate size. The unit is also equipped with an SD and Compact Flash card reader. I figured I wouldn’t be swapping out photos that often, so the USB connection every once and a while would be sufficient.
The display stand can be rotated in order to accommodate portrait and landscape photos. It has a few brightness settings and can be set to automatically turn off during certain time periods. I have it on my bedside table so it’s a nice feature to have it auto shut off when I go to bed and turn on when I wake up. It also has a slideshow mode with a few transitions.
Features I found in some of the new frames are WiFi compatibility. While it’s probably nice for transferring photos, I didn’t see myself changing the photos too often. This frame lacks the WiFi compatibility and it really is a feature that didn’t matter too much to me.
Overall, I’m pretty happy with it. It does everything that’s intended which isn’t too much, but it does a good job in any case. Yes, the unit is a little expensive as all the digital photo frames are in my opinion. There just isn’t a big enough demand for them yet in the mainstream market to justify a low price. The components are pretty common, so the pricing may change. If your in the market for a digital photo frame I would recommend the Phillips 7FF1M4 for an easy no hassle setup and a frame that is very ascetically pleasing.
